My online flash game Update

Posted by narf - May 30th, 2011

It's been about a year since I last talked about it. Officially it's an Online Action RTS, that will be competitively playable against someone across the net.

As of right now it's working and uses peer to peer connection streams. It's in a heavy debugging phase. Lots of things to fix and optimize for performance. However it's playable, and it got me an A+ for my Computer Science Honors degree, so I'm quite happy with it.

No set release date. Right now I've been on a bit of a break from it. I'd been working constantly for 8 months on it learning flash and Actionscript 3 and building the game engine from scratch. Been lurking the flash forum for little tidbits aswell. It's all been a crazy experience. I feel I'm much more in tune with flash programming now.

I'm certainly not ready to release anything to the public. I still gotta get the artwork done, and theres tons of features I have in my head I want to add. Everything is really easy to implement in the final stages so really is just about how much I really want to include in it.

May be another year of me ironing it out since I think my two other group members are moving on to other projects. But i want it to be quality and preferably working with the newgrounds api.

Until then :)

Sounds impressive, if you need any beta testers I'd be glad to give it a shot! :)

We'll see. Right now it's closed private beta, only a select few have tested it out. I can still find the bugs on my own so I don't really need heavy testers yet. I'm going through each scenario on my own and tweaking and tuning. When i can't find bugs anymore then it'll be beta worthy for more people.

Mainly I'll need testers for balancing issues since this game has all sorts of strategy to it and some bot classes are more overpowered then others and need to be tweeked.

The game was supposed to be a really simple concept but all the inner workings are quite complicated.

I'd be glad in giving you some of my voice acting, on the other hand =))

I'm not sure I'll be needing voices, but that may change. I'm pretty much at this point where I'm choosing the design of the whole project. The main concern was getting a working concept/prototype for my grade with my professor. Thats done :) Never made an online game before so it was an adventure. Sounds, art and features are on my list of next ups that I intended to do after my grade was given.

If you want a narrator or voices for the individual units or whatnot, shoot me a pm.

Good luck with this! There are far too few good RTSs out there.

Hope so. This ones simplistic, since it is flash and I wanted it to be enjoyable for all audiences. That doesn't mean it isn't complex. Game mostlly runs itself. Lots of logic happening all based on your location and your clicks. Game knows what your clicking on and can decide on its own the best course of action for that click. It really quite nifty how it all works but I'm not ready to give much more info then that.

However an RTS was probably the worst choice for my first online game. So much happening at once its been a performance nightmare lol. My group members talked me into it lol.

Yay! I've been waiting for your flash game to pop up for the past couple years! Hopefully it'll hit front page. Good luck bud. :D

damn flip, nice to see ya :)

Hmm, if you need help with some music or something I could give it a shot. :D
